Udupi/M’Belle, 19 Apr 2024: The Grand ‘Horekanike’ Procession marked the grandeur of the consecration or Brahmakalashotsava of Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple at Devaragudde, Moodubelle on Friday, 19 April 2024.
The ‘Horekanike’ procession commenced from the Geeta Mandir premises in the Moodubelle township at around 4.30 pm. A large number of villagers from Moodubelle and surrounding villages, men in their traditional attire of dhoti (mundu) and white shirts and women in their festive sarees gathered at the Geeta Mandir.
The chief attraction of the ‘Horekanike’ procession were two pairs of Kambala buffaloews, one huge bull (Nandi), huge dolls, tiger dances and dances by groups of girls and boys. There were also brass bands and Kerala Chende. Women in ‘Poorna Kumbha’ participated in the procession.
The ‘Horekanike’ procession took around two hours to reach the Shri Mahalingershwara Temple at Devaragudde. People who gathered at different spots had the pleasure of witnessing the dances and listening to the brass band and Kerala Chende sound.
As the ‘Horekanike’ procession reached the temple premises, volunteers emptied the tempos and vehicles that had brought various items such as vegetables, pulses, grains, cooking oil and many other items which will be used for the ‘Maha Annasantarpane’ on Wednesday, 24 April 2024.
The Mahalingeshwara Temple is fully prepared for the grand Brahmakalshotsava. The various rituals associated with the consecration of the temple are in progress. The priests have been seen preparing Havankunds for the various sacrificial rituals.
