Udupi, 29 August 2011: Thieves who came to rob, have brutally killed the elderly couple in Parampalli near Saligrama of Kota Police Station jurisdiction. It is suspected that this crime is committed on Friday night and was known only on Sunday morning. The deceased are Sanjeeva Kini (70) and his wife Vasanthi Kini (60). Only these couple were living in the house and their four children are living away in out stations. The complete house of reasonably rich Sanjeeva Kini has been robbed. Even the gold worn by them also have been robbed.

Sanjeeva Kini who was running a grocery shop in Soraba since 3 – 4 decades, 4 years back sold the shop, purchased a tiled house in Parampalli his wife’s original place and were living there. There are plenty of houses around their house, but on the rear side there is a forest. At their house lot of silver wares and gold ornaments. It is suspected that someone who had complete knowledge about all this might have committed this crime.
The couple’s eldest son Nagesh Kini is a scientist in Pune. Eldest daughter Latha is a teacher in Mysore. Younger son Sharath Kumar is employed in Tata Institute Bangalore and youngest daughter Geetha is scientist in the States. There couple were in Mysore for a week in their daughter Latha Kini’s house and had just returned back on Friday afternoon.
Every year during Chauthi they had the tradition of installing Ganapathi, so preparations were also made.In the night after dinner, the thieves seems to have knocked the door, they have beaten Sanjeeva Kini who opened the door, with steel rods. He has fallen at the entrance and died. The cloth of the huge size Sanjeeva Kini was off, that means there is possibilities of him wrestled with the thieves before he died.
Wife Vasantha Kini who was sleeping at that time without knowing what happened outside is brutally killed with the grinding stone smashing her head. The blood was all around both the bodies and was clotted when seen on Sunday. The thieves who entered through the main door had bolted the door from inside. They searched the steel almeira and gathered all the cash and gold and then went out through the rear door by locking it.
At the main entrance the news papers of Saturday and Sunday were found. So it is confirmed that the murder has taken place on Friday night. With this incident the whole Saligrama is in shock. Knowing the death of very well known Kini couple in the village, thousands of people had gathered.
On Sunday morning Sakubai a relative of Kini had phoned, but even after several calls no one was answering, so being suspicious she came to the house but the main door was closed from inside, there was no answer when she called, when she opened a window she saw Sanjeeva Kini fallen down in a pool of blood.
Immediately along with the neighbours the police were informed. SP Dr. Ravikumar who came to the spot has said that a special team will be formed for the investigation of this case. Finger prints team and police dog team had arrived and conducted the inspection.
