National level Manipal Surgical Oncology Conference - MASOCON 2023

Manipal, 13 May 2023: MASOCON 2023 – Manipal Surgical Oncology Conference organised by department of Surgical Oncology Kasturba Medical College Manipal on 12th and 13th May 2023 at Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, KMC Manipal. More than 150 delegates and faculty members participated in this conference, who were mainly from various oncology disciplines across India.

 

The conference was inaugurated by Dr Vijay Kumar M, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University. Dr Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal and Dr Shailesh V Shrikande Deputy Director, TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai were Guests of Honour for the program. Dr Padmaraj Hegde, Dean, KMC Manipal welcomed the gathering and Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal proposed vote of thanks.

 

In the Inaugural address, Dr Vijay Kumar M, said, as per ICMR data most of the cases reporting to hospitals in 3rd and 4th stages, and challenges to the doctors to manage such cases. Cancer is 100% curable if it is diagnosed and treated in the early stages. These types of workshops are very important to upgrade our knowledge and basically for young doctors. I congratulate the team for demonstrating and discussing live surgeries at the conference.

 

 

In his talk, Dr Shailesh V Shrikande stressed the importance of learning and upgrading newer techniques in medical surgeries, for that we have to invest a lot of time and hard work.

 

On this occasion Dr Lt. Gen. (Dr) M D Venkatesh said, “We are going to invest much more facilities in Manipal Comprehensive Care cancer centre. Techniques available in social media give one side of the knowkedge and live surgery works shop and demonstration gives comprehensive knowledge.

 

Dr Shailesh V Shrikande, Dr Ashwin Desouza, Dr Shalaka Joshi, Dr Manisha Bhandare from TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and Dr Devendra Chaukar from Nanavathi Max Super speciality Hospital were the resource persons and demonstrated Live Surgeries in the conference.

 

Dr Naveena Kumar – Head, Department of Surgical Oncology, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and Conference Chairperson gave an overview of the conference. Dr Preethi S Shetty was the Master of ceremony for the program.
