Udupi/M’Belle, 29 Jan 2023: A General Health Checkup Camp was organized jointly by the Health Commission, Moodubelle Unit, Stree Sanghattan, ICYM in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal on Sunday, 29 January 2023 from 9.30 am to 2 pm in the St. Lawrence Parish Community Hall, Moodubelle.
A brief inauguration of the General Health Checkup Camp was held at 9.30 am. Fr. George D’Souza, Parish Priest, Fr. Pradeep Cardoza-Assistant Parish Priest, Jerald Fernandes-Vice President of the PPC, Chalres Quadros-Secretary of the PPC, Mrs. Monica D’Souza-Convener of the 20 Commissions, Mrs. Sobina Martis-President of the Stree Sanghattan, Mrs. Jyothi D’Souza-Coordinator of the Health Commission, Gladson Alva-President of ICYM, Dr. Christopher D’Souza-the Chief Guest and Dr. Vaishna from KMC, Manipal were present on the dais.
In his inaugural address Fr. George D’Souza said that health is the best gift given by God to the humankind. However, humans have been neglecting their health due to unhealthy lifestyle and polluting the environment. It is the responsibility of each and every individual to safeguard his or her as well others’ health. He wished success to the health camp.
In his message, the Chief Guest Dr. Christopher D’Souza, a native of Moodubelle who had completed his MBBS in St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore and presently pursuing higher studies in England said that everyone should have regular health checkup and take necessary precautions to preserve and promote health. Regular checkup helps people to find out any causes of ill-health which can be treated right from the beginning rather than waiting till the disease become severe.
Miss Pushpalatha of the Department of the Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal made the audience aware of various types of cancers that can affect women and various methods to diagnose the disease.
Dr. Judith Lobo-Dean of Manipal College of Nursing, Mrs. Nikita Rebello and Mrs. Shanti Alva-Animator of ICYM were present.
The staff of the Department of Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal included Dr. Vaishna Shanker M, Dr. Varuni Goel and Dr. Aparna Bharadwaj. The Medical Social Workers included: Ms Pushpalatha, Blood technician Suketh Salian, Staff Nurses: Mrs. Hemlatha, Mrs. Jayashree, Mrs. Sulochana, Mrs. Surekah S, Mrs. Susheela and Mrs. laxmi. Support staff Mrs. Ashalatha.
The the health professionals who are parishioners of Moodubelle who helped in the Health camp included Mrs. Precilla Alva, Mrs. Lavina Martis, Mrs. Felcy Castelino and Mrs. Joyce Pinto.
Miss Carol Rosly Quadros welcomed the gathering, proposed the vote of thanks and compeered the programme.
A total of 126 persons took benefit of the Health Checkup Camp. Out of these 100 underwent blood test and 72 took up ECG test; 53 women underwent Pap smear test and 55 women underwent IBE checkup.
