Catechism day observed in moodubelle

Moodubelle 01 March 2010: The Catechism Day was observed in St. Lawrence Church, Moodubelle on Sunday, 28th February 2010 during the 10am Mass. The choir and liturgical readings were conducted by the Sunday Catechism School children. During the offertory nearly forty children came in procession and offered different vegetables and fruits.

 

Following the Mass a programme was organized to felicitate the children for their achievements and teachers for training these children in Catechism on successive Sundays. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, the Parish Priest presided over the function. Fr. Arun Mendonca, Fr. Maxim D’Souza, Mr. Henry Fernandes-Vice President of the Parish Council, Sr. Vinitha and Miss Veera Rebello-the Coordinator of the Sunday School were present on the dais.

 

Mrs. Shanthi Alva who compeered the programme in her introductory remark pointed out that the children have been imparted with the Catechetical instructions every Sunday in order to give them knowledge about the Christian faith which would help them to grow in spirituality and as the last step of this year the Catechism Day is being observed.

 

Mrs. Justine Mendonca welcomed the priests, nuns, Catechism teachers and the children for the programme. Those children who had acquired first and second position in the Catechism examination that was conducted on Sunday, 21st February 2010 from 1st to 10th standards and PUC I and PUC II classes were felicitated by giving them prizes by Fr. Maxim, Fr. Arun and Mr. Henry Fernandes.

 

On behalf of the outgoing PUC students, Miss Jenitha Lobo, member of the Young Christian Students (YCS) narrated her experience while she was a student of the PUC classes and YCS member for the last two years. Thereafter, Fr. Joswey Fernandes gave mementos to all the Catholic PUC students and posed for a group picture along with other priests and teachers.

 

 

Fr. Joswey honoured the students of the 7th standard who had scored highest marks in the Catholic Board of Education’s Public Catechism Examinations by presenting them gold, silver and bronze medals as well as certificates. These students were: Teena Machado (First), Supriya Machado (Second) and Jenitha Martis (Third).

 

As a mark of appreciation to the contribution of the Sunday school teachers, Fr. Joswey honoured them with a token of gift to each of them. There have been 18 Sunday school teachers including priests, sisters from the Bethany Convent, teachers from schools and lay volunteers.

 

In his message, Fr. Joswey pointed out the importance of faith formation among the children through the Catechism classes especially during this Centenary Year of the parish. He appreciated the teachers for the time that they have spending in training the children in Catholic faith.

 

Miss Veera Rebello proposed the vote of thanks. All the children on their way out were given a small book ‘Chalthim Magnim’ (Common Prayers)  and ice cream.
