Moodubelle, 06 July 2011: St. Lawrence Church Parishioners of John Baptist 2nd Ward celebrated their ward feast on Sunday noon 26th June 2011 at the residence of Gregory and Metilda Mathias in Arbi. Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes – Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Lancy Saldanha – Asst. Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira – Principal of St. Lawrence P. U. College, Alphonse Alva – Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, Jesintha D’Souza – Secretary of Parish Pastoral Council and Sr. Vineetha – Convent Superior joined the ward members in the celebration.
Gladys Rebello – Gurkarn of the Ward welcomed the guests and the gathering. The program began with the welcome dance from the children of the ward. Monica D’almeida – Former Ward Secretary read out the annual report. Ronald D’Souza – Ward Representative conducted games competitions. The winners were handed over fabulous prizes by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes.
Rev. Fr. Pau Sequeira was the Chief Guest of the function, who spoke and said that all the wards should progress both spiritually and socially like this ward. Being the largest ward in the Belle parish having 49 families they honoured their ward’s talented personalties from the various sectors, such as; in education Melisha,Amith for securing distinction in S.S.L.C examination, in sports Joy Sequiera Mangalore University player, Melita Quadros who represented Udupi district in Vallyball, in cultural field Rohan D’Souza winner of Dasara state level inter-college fancy dress competition held in Mysore and Grama Panchayath member Mrs. Winny D’souza.
Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes who presided over the function, in his address said that this ward is one of the active wards in the parish. He specially mentioned the work and the help that is given by the ward members to the family of late Augustine Lobo and also appreciated their concern towards Kevin Sequiera’s family who passed away last year in Mangalore air tragedy. Fr. Joswey wished that this work and support from the ward members will continue in the future also.
