Udupi/M’Belle, 23 Jul 2021: Wilfred Menezes of Moodubelle, a successful entrepreneur based in Dubai with business ventures throughout the world and a generous philanthropist passed away a year ago on 20 July 2020. The friends and well-wishers of late Wilfred Menezes organized a memorial requiem mass at St. Lawrence Church followed by a meeting to pay tribute to him in St. Lawrence Parish Hall on Friday, 23 July 2021 at 10.30 am.
The anniversary requiem mass was concelebrated by Fr. Gorge D’Souza, parish priest of Moodubelle along with Fr. Frederick D’Souza, parish priest of Christ the King Church, Manipal and a close family friend of late Wilfred Menezes.
Following the mass, relatives, friends and well-wishers of late Wilfred Menezes gathered in St. Lawrence Parish Hall in the basement. Fr. Fredrick D’Souza offered floral tribute to the portrait of late Wilfred D’Souza and recited prayer for the repose of the soul of late Wilfred Menezes. Speaking on this occasion, Fr. Frederick D’Souza said that life is beautiful not by adding years, but by adding good deeds. He said that these wwords have been appropriate to the life of late Wilfred Menezes. Fr. Fredrick D’Souza recalled his close association with the family of Casmir Menezes, father of late Wilfred Menezes. He further said that Wilfred believed in gracious living and generous giving for family for parish community and for those who are in need. Speaking further, Fr. Frdrick D’Souza said that late Wilfred Menezes built a close knit family. He was an inspiration and role model for his brothers and sister. He was a charismatic leader, positive thinker and a person who rose the ladder of success with great humility and determination.
Gerald Fernandes recalled his close association with late Wilfred Menezes since his childhood as they were classmates right from first to tenth standards. He said that late Wilfred Menezes was down to earth person and valued the friendship of his contemporaries. He mentioned about many finer qualities of late Wilfred Menezes and his generous nature.
Henry Fernandes welcomed the gathering; Charles Quadros compeered the programme and Ivan Menezes, brother of late Wilfred Menezes proposed the vote of thanks.
Relatives, friends and well-wishers of late Wilfred Menezes paid floral tribute to late Wilfred Menezes by offering flowers petals to his portrait.
Sr. Irene Viegas-Headmistress if Church Aided Higher Primary School, Mrs. Sunitha Kamath-Headmistress of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, Br. Philip Noronha-Principal of St. Lawrence English Medium School, Elias D’Souza- a close associate of late Wilfred Menezes in Bellevision, Devdas Hebbar, Rajendra Shetty and a number of friends, relatives and well-wishers of late Wilfred Menezes were present to pay rich tribute to him.
The entire proceedings of the day were webcast through Zoom for the benefit of thosuands of friends and well-wishers of late Wilfred Menezes spreadd across the globe.
