Moodubelle, 02 July 2011: Day to Day activities of the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Moodubelle St Lawrence P.U. College Unit 2010-2011 was inaugurated by Dr H.B. Shetty at St Lawrence P.U. College on 2 July 2011 at 1:30 p.m.. Rev. Fr Paul Sequeira, Principal, St Lawrence P.U. College, Moodubelle presided over the function.
Ms Jovita Mendonca was the moderator of the programme and Ms Shilpa Nayak, president of Parents and Teachers association was the chief guest. Also present on the dais were Mr. Edward Larson D’souza, planning officer of NSS unit; Mr. Ravi Kumar and Ms Sahana, officers of the NSS.
Mr. Edward Larson D’souza, in his speech told the students that the NSS is in existence in the college for the last 7 years and Mr. Naveen Correa was in charge of the unit for four years and he is at the helm of affairs for the last two years. Two third of the colleges of the University of Mangalore do not have NSS units. In a way St Lawrence P.U. College is lucky to have one. There are 100 members this year out of which 47 are girls. Last year different types of free training camps were held and this year too there are plans to conducts more training camps. A special training camp would be held at Shirva Don Bosco School. He requested the members to make use of these opportunities and develop their skills.
Dr Shetty, in his address told the members that the NSS is very useful to develop ones personality and that they should grab these opportunities. NSS instills discipline in students and that discipline is very important to everyone.
Ms. Shilpa Nayak, Chief Guest, wished all the all success in the activities of the unit. Fr. Paul Sequeira wanted the members to make the special camp a success so that it would help them to develop their personality.Ms. Sahana proposed a vote of thanks.
