New delhi, 07 June 2011: Six years after she was expelled for indiscipline, firebrand leader Uma Bharti on Tuesday rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party at a crowded press conference at the party headquarters at 11 Ashok Road on Tuesday, June 7, 2011.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister’s re-induction in the party was announced at a press conference here by party president Nitin Gadkari.
Uma Bharati will look after the party’s affairs in Uttar Pradesh, which goes to polls next year. "Umaji will play a key role in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh elections and she would be based in Lucknow. This will strengthen the party and help in removing (UP Chief Minister) Mayawati’s goonda raj and prevent (Samajwadi Party chief) Mulayam Singh Yadav’s jungle raj from coming back to power," said BJP president Nitin Gadkari while outlining her role in the party.
Further, NitinGadkari said, "I discussed the issue with all leaders and parliamentary party members and so I am announcing it now. With Uma Bharti, we will get power in Uttar Pradesh politics," Gadkari told reporters.
Uma Bharati was expelled for indiscipline and defying the BJP’s central leadership in December 2005. She then launched her own party - the Bharatiya Janshakti Party.
