Kanajar, 03 June 2011: A grand emotional farewell function was organized for Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha, Parish Priest, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar, on Sunday May 29 on behalf of Kanajar Parish Council and parishioners. Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha who served Kanajar parish for the last seven years, will assume charge as Parish Priest of Katipalla on 2nd June 2011.
The farewell function was organized last Sunday after morning 8am mass. Fr. Jacob Aranha concelebrated the mass along with Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha.
After the mass Mr. George D’Sa, who was the master of ceremony, called upon Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha, Fr. Jacob Aranha, Mr. Ignatius D’Souza, Vice-President of the Parish Council and Mrs. Janet Menezes, Secretary of Parish Council on to the stage.
Mrs. Janet Menezes, Secretary of Parish Council welcomed one and everyone to the programme. Vice-President of the Parish Council Mr. Ignatius D’Souza read out the letter of felicitation on behalf of the parish council and parishioners in the honor of Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha for his selfless service to the Kanajar Parish. Rev. Fr. Jacob Aranha felicitated Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha and placed a shawl as a respect of honor and presented the letter of felicitation to Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha.
Mr. Ignatius D’Souza, Vice-President of Parish Council garlanded Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha on behalf of the parishioners and presented a fruits thali to Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha. Mrs. Janet Menezes, Secretary of Parish Council presented a memento to Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha on this occasion. Mr. Ignatius D’Souza, Vice-President of Parish Council, Mrs. Janet Menezes, Secretary of Parish Council and 14 heads of the parish wards presented a gift to Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha on behalf of the parishioners and
thanked him for his selfless service to Kanajar parish in the last seven years.
On this occasion, Fr. Jacob Aranha presented his thoughts and mentioned that Kanajar parish has seen 70 years of progress in the last 7 years under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha.
Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha thanked each and every one of the parishioners for their support to him during the last seven years. He asked parishioners to continue the same relationship and same spirit to the new priest Fr. John Mendonca.
During the programme parishioners sang a touching farewell song to Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha to the tunes of the choir.
Snacks were presented to the parishioners who were present on this occasion. Parishioners in large numbers came forward and presented bouquets of flowers, garlands to Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha. Mr. George D’Sa compered the programme.
