Udupi/M’Belle, 10 Aug: In spite of incessant rains and power failure the titular feast of St. Lawrence was celebrated with great devotion, gaiety and fervor in St. Lawrence Parish, Moodubelle on Saturday, 10 August 2019 at 10.30 am.
The chief celebrant of the solemn feast Mass was Fr. Ronald Serrao, Rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore, who had served as Assistant Parish Priest in Moodubelle. Other priests included Fr. Valerian Mendonca-Dean of Udupi Deanery, Rev. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza-Rector of Milagres Cathedral and Dean of Kallianpur Deanery, Fr. Denis D’Sa-Dean of Shirva Deanery, Fr. Valerian D’Souza-Former Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Fr. Ronson Fernandes-Editor of ‘Uzwaad’, Fr. Lawrence Cutinha-former Assistant Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Fr. Clement Mascarenahs-Present Parish Priest of Moodubelle, Fr. Jithesh Castelino-Present Assistant Parish Priest of Moodubelle and other priests from Udupi Deanery and neighbouring parishes.
In his homily, Fr. Ronald Serrao narrated the life, service and martyrdom of St. Lawrence and pointed out how he lived and accepted martyrdom according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. St. Lawrence throughout his life followed the principle of Love of God and Service of Fellowbeings, especially poor and marginalized.
At the end of the solemn feast mass, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas conveyed the greetings of the Titular Feast to all parishioners and expressed gratitude to all those who have been serving the parish and church.
On behalf of the Udupi deanery, Fr. Valerian Mendonca conveyed the greetings of the feast to Fr. Clement Mascarenhas and all the parishioners of Moodubelle.
Earlier, candles of honour were distributed to all the mud-dhoms and at the end of the Mass, Fr. Clement Mascarenhas gave away special candles to sponsors.
