Udupi, 09 Aug: Adani-owned Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) that is generating 1,200 MW power at Yellur village, near here, under its CSR wing Adani Foundation, inaugurated 5 development works in the villages under Belapu gram panchayat, recently.
The 5 development works involving construction of compound wall for Belapu gram panchayat office, concreting of Deve Gowda Colony Road, concreting of Belapu-Malangoli Road, concreting of Jarandaya Road and concreting of Inner Roads at Vinaya Nagar at a total cost of Rs 55 lac were jointly inaugurated and opened to the villagers by Deviprasad Shetty, president of Belapu gram panchayat and Kishore Alva, president and executive director of Adani.
Speaking on the occasion, Deviprasad Shetty expressed happiness on the CSR initiatives of Adani - UPCL, which are benefitting the village and rural people at large. He informed that the previous promoters of this thermal power company failed to execute the CSR in a satisfactory manner and did not gain the confidence of the locals. However, UPCL after coming into the hands of Adani Group is giving attention for the overall development of the surrounding villages under its CSR and the social development programmes of Adani are welcomed by the villagers, he added. He further advised villagers to maintain the surroundings clean and green to continue as a model village.
Later, Kishore Alva spoke and informed that Adani, in addition to the execution of CSR programmes under education, health, social forestry, promotion of rural sports, is giving special attention on the overall development of infrastructure facilities in the surrounding villages. He also said that Adani management has accorded approval of Rs 22.73 crore, which is only for taking-up the infrastructure development works over a period of 3 years in 7 gram panchayats based on the advice of district administration and panchayats. Under the Community Infrastructure Development programme, Adani - UPCL has to execute development works worth totally Rs. 3 crores in BelapuPanchayat for a period of 3 years and till date Rs 1.31 crore worth development works have been already completed by Adani UPCL, Alva added. He further informed that the balance works would soon be taken-up as per the Action Plan of panchayat.
Shobha Bhat, vice president of Belapu gram panchayat, Shekabba, taluk panchayat member, panchayat members Dinesh Poojary, Suresh Devadiga, Anita Anand, Noor Jahan, Faisam Banu, Vijayalakshmi Devadiga, Karunakara Shetty, Usha Vasu, Sharath Kumar, Zaheer Ahmed, progressive farmer Mendonca, Adani UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada, senior manager Ravi R Jere, Adani Foundation staff Vineet Anchan, Anudeep Poojary and Sukesh Suvarna were present.
