Udupi, 30 May 2011: The two day State level Konkani Women’s Literature – Cultural Utsav 2010 – 11 in Shri Madhva Mantap, sponsored by Shri Mutt and conducted by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy Mangalore is concluded on Sunday. Udupi MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat participated in the program as Chief Guest. Outstanding women achievers in various fields were felicitated by Raghupathi Bhat.
Upon felicitation Raghupathi Bhat spoke and said that the government is giving the grant and encourages retaining and developing the values of literature and culture of Konkani language. We will bring to the kind attention of the Chief Minister to arrange through the Academy for making proper use of the grants to all the 42 communities of Konkani mother tongue. With outstanding performance the activities of Konkani Academy has made lot of achievements, he said.
The women achievers in various fields who were felicitated are; Usha Nayak Karkala of Rajapura Saraswath community, Sandhya K. Kurdikar Sirsi of Daivajna Brahmana community, Vatsala Nayak Puttur of G.S.B. community, Rukmini Maruru Kundapura of Kudbi community, Jamuna Nagappa Mestha Karki Honnavara of Kharvi community and Joyce Ozerio Mangalore of Christian community.
S. Nagesh Shet – Secretary of Daivajna Brahmana Sangha Volakadu and Sandhya K. Kurdikar spoke on the occasion. Kundapura Narayana Kharvi – President of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy presided over the function. Academy Registrar S.H. Shivarudrappa, Academy members; Vasudeva Shanubhag Sirsi, Devanna Nayak, Vasantha Bandhekar Karwar, Puttur Panduranga Nayak were also present on the dias.
Coordinator of the sammelana B. Pundalika Marathe Shirva introduced the guests and the women who were felicitated and also welcomed everyone. Academy member Mangalpadi Namadeva Shenoy compeered the program. Total 37 women teams from Hubli, Dharwad, Sirsi, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Karavar, Ankola, Kundapura, Udupi, Karkala, Mangalore, Bantwal, Puttur and other places.
In the programs of Kavighosti held in the morning, Sharada Bhat Udupi presided over the function. Poems were read out by Wilma Lavina D’Souza Bantwal, Vasanthi R. Nayak Mangalore, Sabitha S. Kamath Mangalore, Jayalakshmi Shenoy Karkala, Geetha Wagle Bantakal, Shradha R. Kharvi Kundapura, Bharathi R. Nayak Parkala, Sathyavathi Kamath Mangalore, Poornima Mallya Puttur, and Malathi Pai Ajekar. Shaila Fernandes Udupi compeered the program.
In the functions held in the afternoon Konkani women Vicharaghosti debate which was presided over by St. Aloysius College Mangalore Vice Principal Veronica Judith Pinto. Essays and debate was held in the topics such as on Women’s role in the development of; Konkani language, Konkani literature, the influence on women by the electronic media, working women in the family and Konkani Janapada, influence of Konkani culture and tradition on modern education.
Finally the essays were presented by Usha Nayak Karkala, Rukmini Maruru, Poornima Shenoy Karkala, Irene Rebello Mangalore and Catherine Rodrigues Katapadi. Vidya Nayak Karkala compeered the program.
