Udupi, 23 May 2011: State level Konkani Women’s Literature – Cultural Utsav will be held in Udupi on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May 2011. The Utsav will be held with the support of Udupi Shri Krishna Mutt Paryaya Shri Shiruru Mutt Udupi, conducted by Government of Karnataka and Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy Mangalore.
There are over 40 communities with Konkani as their mother tongue and each communities have varieties of Janapada, Cultural, Literary, Social and Religious practises. In their traditions which are being in practice since generations, there are similarities. In order to introduce the various communities and to retain and to grow the Janapada culture, language and literature, Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, on the occasion of the women’s day celebration, has organized the level Konkani Women’s Literature – Cultural Utsav.
In this cultural Utsav about 37 groups will be performing with their various Janapada and traditional programs. Also Konkani Kavi ghosthi and Konkani Vichara ghosti debates will be taking place.
On Saturday 28th May evening at 04.30 Utsav will be inaugurated by Shri Krishna Mutt Parayaya Shiruru Swamiji Shri Lakshmivara Theertha Shripadaru. Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya, Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhatt, Udupi Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankara Poojary, Udupi Municipality Udupi Committee President Sumithra R. Nayak and Udyavara St. Francis Church Fr. William Martis will be the Chief Guests. Academy President Kundapura Narayana Kharvi will be presiding over the program.
On Sunday 29th May evening in the closing ceremony program MP of Udupi D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Udupi Municipal President Kiran Kumar, Taluk Panchayath President Devdas Hebbar, Kundapura Sub Division Officer Sadashiva Prabhu, Shri Krishna Mutt, Paryaya Shiruru Mutt Diwana Lathvya Acharya, Udupi Volakadu Daivajna Brahmana Sangha Secretary S. Nagesh Shet will be participating.
In this program women who contributed in the various fields will be honoured. Women who will be honoured are; Usha Nayak Karkala, Sandhya K. Kurdikar Sirsi, Joyce Ozario Mangalore, Vathsala Nayak Puttur, Kumuda Gatkar Karavar, Rukmini Maruru Kundapura, Jamuna Nagappa Mesta Karki Honnavar.
In the Utsav from Dharvada, Hubli, Karvar, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, Kundapura, Udupi, Mangalore, Puttur, Kalasa, teams fraom various communities such as Gowda Saraswath, Rajapur Saraswath, Catholic, Daivajna Brahman, Kharwi, Bandary, Kudubi, Manjrekar, Narvekar, Komar Panth, Bandi Samaj, Vyshya vani, Siddi will be performing various cultural programs, said Academy Regristrar S.H.
