Young Indian schoolboy conquers Mt Lhotse

Khatmandu, 21 May 2011: Arjun Vajpayee, 17 years old class 12 student of the Ryan International School in Noida  has achieved a rare double; after being the youngest Indian to scale Mount Everest, he has ascended the neighbouring peak Mt. Lhotse.

 

 

Arjun Vajpayee, reached the peak of the 8,516 metre Mt. Lhotse, world’s fourth highest peak at 8.10 am, on Friday, May 20, 2011 along with two Nepalese Sherpa guides, his mother Priya Vajpayee said. ."After reaching the summit, Arjun called home and said, ’I made it... I am standing on Mt Lhotse and feeling very happy. I can see Mt Everest and it looks very beautiful,’" the mother said.

Inspired by his victory over the Everest and the Lhotse, Arjun plans to reach North Pole in November-December.Last year, Arjun became the youngest Indian to climb the world’s highest summit, the 8,848 metre high Mt Everest, at the age of 16.He reached the top of Everest on May 22, 2010.Arjun completed a basic course in mountaineering from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi and after taking part in a number of expeditions to peaks over 6,000 metres high set his sights on Mount Everest last year.Arjun broke the record of Krushnaa Patil, 18, from Maharashtra who became the youngest Indian to reach Everest in 2009.

 

Arjun has ambitions to become the first Indian to scale as many as 10 over 8,000 metre-high Himalayan peaks.
