Mangaluru, 05 Dec: The valedictory ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration of Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) here was held at Don Bosco Hall, on Sunday, December 2.
Fr Joseph Dolpy Pais, Provincial of Karnataka Capuchins presided the programme.
James Mendonca, NRI Entrepreneur and philanthropist was the chief guest.
KNS president Fr Paul Melvyn D’Souza, vice president Sunil Menezes, general secretary Judi D’Souza, joint secretary Jossy Theodore and treasurer Jerry Concessao were present on the dias.
The programme began with a floral tribute to founders of KNS Fr Philip Neri, Cap and Fr George Albuquerque Pai, SJ.
Addressing the gathering, James Mendonca applauded the continued support of KNS in promoting drama, singing, dance and other varieties. The talents always need a platform that has been provided by KNS, he said. He congratulated the current office bearers and members of KNS.
Fr Joseph Dolphy Pais, in his presidential address said, ‘Inspiration may be many. But inspiration which a priest of Aloysius College got and subsequently authorized till now by capuchin Friar as this Konkani Natak Sabha will live ages in its marvelous never ending work. Everyone who we see a artiste of Mangalore and around will praise Don Bosco Hall for its unique artiste friendly feature and comfort of performance on stage because of the perfection of its construction,’ he siad. He also congratulated the KNS on the occasion of celebrating Platinum Jubilee.
Senior artistes Peter Furtado, Albert Peris and Claude D’Souza were felicitated by KNS with Norbert Corda Kala Award, James Mendonca Kala Award and Austin D’Ssouza Prabhu Kala Award respectively. Daisy D’Souza, Jerry Concessao and Prem Lobo read the citation letter.
KNS former presidents Fr Rupert Barboza, Fr Joachim D’Souza, Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza and present president Fr Paul Melvyn D’Souza were honored.
Fr Paul Melvyn D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Judi D’Souza presented the report. Sunil Menezes proposed vote of thanks. CGS, Tacode (Valencia) compered the programme.
After the stage programme, ‘Aunkar Mestri’ a Konkani drama was staged by the artistes of Asthitwa ®, Mangaluru. The late Cha Fra D’Costa is the playwright of this play and directed by Denis Monteiro.
