Udupi, 16 May 2011: After the Udupi District was formed, many Deputy Commissioners came and gone, but when they were transferred there were no high profile farewell from the ministers and the representatives of people so far. But such farewell was given to D.C. Hemalatha who has been transferred to Bangalore as the Director of State Agricultural Department. This kind of farewell was not there even while her husband Ponnuraj, former D.C. of Udupi was transferred.
Higher Education Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya, MLA K. Raghupathi Bhat, MLA Lalaji Mendon, Vidhana Parishad Member Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Finance Committee President A.G. Kodgi, Jilla Panchayath President Katapadi Shankar Poojary, City Corporation President Kiran Kumar and other people’s representatives, Dr. Ravikumar, Taluk Panchayath Officer D. Manjunathayya, City Corporation Gokuldas Nayak and several other officers felicitated and bid farewell to Hemalatha. On this occasion her husband Ponnuraj was also present.
Dr. V.S. Acharya spoke on the occasion and appreciated the simplicity and honesty of Hemalatha. He also spoke on the developments in the district during her tenure such as the widening of Kalsanka road, land acquiring for the widening of Karkala road, D.C. Office in Manipal which were all his long time dreams.
Replying to the felicitation Hemalatha said that, since Udupi was an already developed district, she did not have to do much work on developement and besides there were sufficient grants for the developments from the government. She also wished to come back to Udupi as the District Secretary. On this occasion District Journalists Sangha felicitated her for her help to the Journalist Bhavana.
