Bantwal, 16 May 2011: Sudden showers in Bantwal taluk on Saunday evening has brought about damages to property and crop in large scale.
Several trees were uprooted in B C Road city and rural areas. This interrupted traffic flow in a big way.
As many as 25 areca trees fell at Narikombu and nearby areas. A hut belonging to Raghunath Bhandary collapsed. Meanwhile, the hut of Padmanabha Bhandary was reduced to ground when a jackfruit tree fell over it. Many areca trees of the local resident Keshava fell causing huge loss. Revenue Officer P B Bhat and Taluk Panchayat Members Ananda A Shambur visited the spot.
Babu Poojary, resident of Maganja in Kavalapadur, Alampuri resident Santhosh Rodrigues, Cyril Veigas, Aprian Rodrigues, Kolenjikodi Pramod Poojary, Nadyarabettu Umesh Mugera, Sanjeeva Mulya had their roofs damaged as their areca trees fell over their homes. Total rain damage in the taluk has been estimated to be about Rs 1 lakh.
