Mangalore, 12 May 2011: The 22nd Anniversary of the Institute of Karate and Allied Arts (IKAA) was celebrated on May 8, 2011 at 9.30 am in the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore in the presence of karate students, dignitaries and those who have interest in this field of sports.
The Institute of Karate and Allied Arts, Mangalore has been one of the esteemed martial arts institute in Karnataka. It has more than 125 branches in Udupi, Mangalore, Kodagu, Bangalore, Kasaragod and Karkala. IKAA was started by Mr. Praveen Kumar in 1989. Now it has become vast martial arts organization with thousands of young people learning the art of self defense. It has produced more than 500 Black Belt students and its members have bagged numerous medals in Regional, State, National and International Karate Championships.
At the 22nd Anniversary celebration, Mr. C.H Rao, President of All India Budokan Karate Federation, Mr. Praveen Kumar, Vice President and Chairman, Technical Committee, Prof. G.R.Rai, Secretary of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore, Mr. Jayaram Shetty, Director of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore, Mr. Anand Devadiga, Mr. Bala Krishna Alva and Mr. Suresh M were present as dignitaries.
The program started at 9.30 am by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. Mr. Rao spoke on how the institute started with few people 22 years back and has become the most esteemed martial arts institute in the region. Praveen Kumar spoke on the importance of the annual get together.
Black Belt Certificates were distributed by Mr. Rao to the students who had appeared for the karate examination on May 7, 2011.
After the formal function, many fun filled games were conducted by Derik Kishan to entertain the audience. This was a unique platform to showcase their non martial artistic talent. In the valedictory function they were given opportunity to give feedback and they said that they had one of the best times of their life with fun and games. They were able to meet other karate class students and interact and become friends. This gathering got them the opportunity to meet each and every member of the karate family and showcase their talents.
