Udupi/M’Belle: ’Police require cooperation from people to reduce crime’- Abdul Qadar, SI

Udupi/M’Belle, 05 Jul 2018: “In order to reduce crime in the village, people should cooperate and extend their helping hand to the police in controlling crime”, said Sub Inspector (SI) Abdul Qadar of Shirva Police Station while addressing the members of Ward 3 of Belle Grama Pnachayat in a meeting of the Beat Group held at Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple premises, Devaragudde, Moodubelle on Wednesday, 4 July 2018 at 5.30 pm.

 

The concept of the Beat Group was introduced in Belagaum in2017 which was later adopted all over Karnataka. The government is keen to involve the people along with the police in controlling crime.

 

SI Qadar said that 10 villages that are covered under the Shirva Police Station are divided into 35 Wards each consisting of a Beat Group comprising roughly about 50 members who  will help the police in controlling the crime.

 

“People should be vigilant about unknown people visiting the village or neighbourhood. People should ascertain the identity of the stranger and report  to the police. People should not take law into their own hands and beat up such strangers”, said SI Abdul Qadar. He also asked the villagers to check the identity of labourers that they hire from other parts of the state by demanding  Aadhar Cards or voters ID so that such people do not commit any crime. He cautioned the villagers about the salesmen and women who might be on a reconnaisance mission to find out the possible target for robbery. There is no guarantee that all these saales persons are genuine.

 

SI Qadar further said that during the rainy season, there is a possibility of increased thefts and robberies. People should avoid keeping valuables such as jewellery and excess money in their house  especially when they go away for few days. He also requested the people to inform the police about any illegal activity going on in their locality.

 

 

Dr. H.B. Shetty and Commodore Jerome Castelino appreciated the efforts undertaken by the police of Shirva Police Station in educating the villagers about the need to cooperate with the police in order to prevent crime.

 

Krishna Acharya, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) and Huchirappa, Police Constable were present. Huchirappa compeered the programme, welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.

 

A large number of villagers  from Ward 3 were present for the meeting.
