Udupi/Pamboor, 20 Dec 2017: Day of the Priests and Religious of the Holy Cross Parish, Pamboor, as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebration was observed on Wednesday, 20 December 2017 with a Solemn Thanksgiving Mass and felicitation function.
The solemn Thanksgiving Mass was concelebrated by all the priests from Pamboor Parish with Fr. Jephrin Monis, presently serving in Germany as the chief celebrant. Fr. Paul Rego, present Parish priest and Fr. Denis D’Souza, Founder Parish Priest also participated in the concelebration of the Solemn Thanksgiving Mass.
The homily was preached by Fr. Henry Alva (OFM Cap), Provincial Superior, Central Province, Canada. In his homily, Fr. Henry Alva said that the priests and religious men and women fully dedicate themselves to the service of God, church and people. He narrated about his own vocation and said that it was his parents, especially his father who wanted him to be a priest and nurtured his vocation. Further, Fr. Henry said that it is among the parents that the vocation should take deep roots so that they can influence their children to join priesthood or religious life.
Soon after the Holy mass, felicitation function was held in the pandal that was presided over by Msgr. Baptist Menezes, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese. All the priests, a brother and religious sisters along with Fr. Paul Rego, Prakash Noronha and Mrs. Asuntha D’Souza occupied the dais.
Following the welcome address by Fr. Paul Rego, Prakash Noronha read the list of the priests and Religious Sisters who were felicitated by Msgr. Baptist Menezes, Fr. Paul Rego, Prakash Noronha and Mrs. Asuntha D’Souza. Altogether 19 priests, one brother and Religious Sisters were honoured on this occasion.
On behalf of all the priests and Religious Sisters honoured on this occasion, Sr. Anitha Alva of Missionary Sisters of Immaculate Conception Congregation, presently Provincial of the Congregation at Siliguri, West Bengal thanked Fr. Paul Rego and all the parishioners for honouring them.
Msgr. Baptist Menezes in his presidential address, narrated his association with Fr. Denis D’Souza, Founder Parish priest of the Holy Cross Church, pamboor when the latter was the Assistant Parish Priest of Shirva. He complimented Fr. Paul Rego for renovating the church in a most beautiful and aesthetic manner and wished that the seeds of vocation would grow and bear fruit with the renewed church and rejuvenated parish family.
Mrs. Asuntha D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Br. Steven Fernandes compeered the programme.
