Mangaluru, 05 Dec 2017: St Vincent Ferrer parish, Valencia, here, celebrated Small Christian Community (SCC) Day, here, on Sunday, December 3.
Episcopal city deanery vicar and Rosario Cathedral parish priest Fr J B Crasta concelebrated the Eucharistic Celebration along with Valencia assistant parish Fr Naveen Pinto, here, on Sunday at 4.00pm.
Fr Naveen Pinto delivered the homily.
The cultural programme was held at the church grounds.
Fr James D’Souza, in his presidential address said, ‘Community Day celebrations like this bring parish community s together as one family.’
Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza were the chief guests of the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Lobo said, ‘There is a greater responsibility on us to make our community strong. We need to get into government jobs so that peace, justice and truth may prevail and that we become the model for others.’
MLC Ivan said, ‘The community participation in the public sector is very less. We need to pay more attention to it and make our community vibrant.’
The programme started with a welcome dance by Anusha D’Souza and Amulya D’Souza.
Valencia parish council vice president Anil Lobo welcomed the gathering. Valencia parish council secretary Lizzie Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Jacinta Sequeira and Sweeny D’Souza compered the programme.
Winners of various competitions were awarded on the occasion.
Sr Doreen, Godwin D’Souza, Cyril Sequeira (CGS Taccode), Neena Rodrigues, Sr Olinda Pereira, Dolphy Saldanha, MLC Ivan D’Souza were felicitated for their achievements in various fields on the occasion.
Lourdes ward, Carmel ward and Infant Mary ward presented skit on the theme Community in a Church. Team MeMoRi enthralled the crowd with their splendid jokes.
Valencia parish priest Fr James D’Souza, Fr Naveen Pinto, resident Fr Arun Lobo, Episcopal City deanery SCC convener Robert D’Souza Bendore, Valencia unit SCC convener Jacinta Carmine were present.
Dinner was served to all the people who were present. Food was specially prepared by the parishioners for the event.
The programme concluded by baila – non stop dance with DJ Valen playing some Konkani and Hindi music.
Around 1500 parishioners witnessed this special event.
