Udupi/Shirva,10 Oct 2017: The students and athletics of Don Bosco English Medium School put up an very impressive display during the welcoming ceremony of the guests of the program and march fast led by the school band. The wonderful inaugural function of Annual Sports Meet 2017-18 of Don Bosco English Medium School, Shirva was held on Monday, 9th October 2017 with the welcoming ceremony at 9:30am at the St. Mary’s School ground.
The Chief Guest of the day Mr. David D’Souza (President Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat) was accorded a warm welcome with a salute by School Band along with the guests of honours of the day Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro (Correspondent, Don Bosco/St. Mary’s Educational Institutions), Ref. Fr. Canute Nornoha (Asst. PP Our Lady of Health, Shirva), Mr. Wilson D’Souza (VA Parish Council) and Rev. Fr. Mahesh D’Souza (Principal, Don Bosco Eng. Med. School) and escorted them ceremoniously to the specially built dais on the occasion. It was a wonderful display of school band played by little students of the school.
Ms. Irine Quadras welcomed the gathering and accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Guest Mr. David D’Souza and all other guests on the dais. The school choir sang a prayer song invoking God’s blessings and followed by felicitation of guests of honour with floral bouquets by staff members. The sports flag was then hoisted by Fr. Stany Tauro.
The guard of honour by all athletes (8 squads) was received by Chief Guest Mr. David D’Souza followed by lighting of sports flame by leading sports students of District level and state level winners and participants.
The grand Don Bosco Eng. Med. School Annual Sports Meet 2017-18 was officially inaugurated by releasing the balloons by guests of honour.
On the occasion Mr. David D’Souza (President Gram Panchayat Mudarangadi and owner of Prince Group) was felicitated by guests of honour with traditional shawl, fruit basket, flower garland and a memento.
Fr. Stany Tauro in his address to the students said that this sports day is very unique. The March Fast was impressive, the sports flag was hoisted at highest level that means our students to achieve highest goal in their life. Excel in sports events and you will be able to take part in District and state level events. Those who excel in studies and sports will be called as all rounder. I urge today all students to take this challenge and excel in every field you have been provided with. Fr. Taruo then thanked Guests of honour for accepting the invitation to attend the sports event inaugural function. He specially thanked all the staff, management and importantly Fr. Mahesh D’Souza (Principal) for his dedicated efforts to organize this wonderful sports event,even though he is busy with new CBSC building and other school activities including his singing and music.
Those who performed well in March-Fast were honoured with trophy each and also all squad leaders were given away with trophies by the Chief Guest.
The oath taking ceremony was conducted by Ashwin. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Anitha D’Souza and Ms. Shiona Alva conducted the program.
The Annual sports event will be held two days i.e. 9th and 10th October and concluding and prize distribution ceremony will be held on 3,00pm on 10th October (today).
