Al Ain: Monti Fest celebrated at St Mary’s Catholic Church

Al Ain/UAE, 12 Sep 2017: With great joy Konkani Community of St Mary’s Catholic Church Al Ain, celebrated Monti Fest on Friday, September 8.

 

The celebration began on Friday at 10.15am with blessing of new corn, near the grotto by Fr Maxim Cardoza OFM Cap, assistant parish priest of Jabel Ali Church, followed by showering of flowers with the hymn, Sakkod Sangatha Mellya,  glorifying and honouring  Infant Mary.

 

All children offered flowers to honour Infant Mary in a traditional way. Thereafter, the new paddy sheaves were brought to the altar in a procession.

 

A large number of devotees took part in the solemn festal Eucharistic Celebration. Fr Maxim Cardoza OFM Cap celebrated the festal Mass along with Fr Stalin Varghese OFM Cap, parish priest of Al Ain Church.

 

 

During the Mass, as per tradition, blessed new harvest was placed on the altar. Young children and adults offered fruits, vegetables and other offertory to God with a grateful heart.

 

A melodious choir by Clara and group was the highlight of the festal celebrations. As the Mass concluded Fr Stalin Varghese OFM Cap acknowledged all Konkani speaking parishioners for organizing this feast.

 

The celebration concluded with vegetarian ‘Novem Jevann’ served to all the devotees with sugarcane. Committee of the Konkani Speaking Community took the lead in organizing the whole celebration.
