Udupi/M’Belle: Mrs. Veera Fernandes honoured with ’Adarsha Shikshaki’ Prashasthi

Udupi/M’Belle, 11 September 2017: Mrs. Veera Fernandes, Headmistress of St. Lawrence English Medium High School, Moodubelle was honoured with ‘Adarsha Shikshaki’ Prashasthi (Ideal Teacher) by the Department of  Public Education of Udupi District in association with Adarsha Hospital, Udupi on Sunday, 10 September 2017 in a function held in the Adarsha Hopital Auditorium. Mrs. Veera Fernandes is one of the 30 ideal teachers from the Udupi District recommended by the  Department of Public Education for this honour. 

 

The programme of honouring the Ideal teachers was inaugurated by Mrs. Anuradha G.(KAS)-Deputy District Officer of Udupi. D. Manjunathayya, Commissioner of Udupi Municipal Council was the the chief guest. Shri Shekar-Deputy Director of Public Education Department of udupi District was the guest of honour. Kudi Vasantha Shetty-winner of National Best Teacher Award and Headmaster of  Shri Vishnumoorthy High School, Kudi and Prof. A. Raja-Senior Neuro-Surgeon of Adarsha Hospital were the chief speakers. 

Besides honouring the Ideal Teachers, free health check up for teachers was organized by the Adarsha Hospital. 

 

After acquiring  B.A. and B.Ed. degrees Mrs. Veera Fernandes has been in teaching profession since 1997. From 1997 to 2002, she served in St. Mary’s English Medium High school, Udupi. Thereafter, she joined her husband Robert Fernandes in Bahrain and continued her love for teaching and served in the Asian School, Bahrain for 12 years from 2002 to 2014. After returning to her native place, Moodubelle she got an opportunity to serve as Headmistress in St. Lawrence English Medium High School  from 6 July 2015 where she continues to hold the post at present. 

 

While Mrs. Veera Fernandes was serving in the Asian School, Bahrain she received a letter of commendation from Mrs. Smriti Irani, the then Minister of Human Resource Development  in the Government of India, congratulating her for the stellar performance of her students in the Secondary School Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

St. Lawrence English Medium High School has been securing hundred percent result in the  successive years since the last eight years. With the continuation of the tradition of hundred percent result, under the administration of Headmistress Mrs. Veera Fernandes, the percentage of students securing distinction and first class marks increased. The school has also made remarkable progress in the field of sports and Pratibha Karanji. Last year the Boys Volleyball Team reached up to the state level competition. Mrs. Veera Fernandes was instrumental in introducing Scouts and Guides in the school and streamlining the Karate Training Classes. With far sight and  administrative acumen she was successful in streamlining the entire administrative system of the school. 

 

Recognizing the academic, sporting and cultural achievements of St. Lawrence English Medium High School and her administrative capability, the Department of Public Education of Udupi District recommended Mrs. Veera Fernandes to the prestigious honour of ‘Adarsha Shikshaki’ Prashasthi.
