Udupi, 23 Aug 2017: Leena D’Mello, Assistant Professor of Manipal College of Nursing, bagged doctorate from Manipal University, for her thesis on Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) for Indians and effectiveness of a disease management program (DMP) in controlling the progression of chronic kidney disease that she had undertaken at the guidance of KMC head of nephrology Professor Dr A Ravindra Prabhu.
Leena was hailing from Sequeira family of Manipura of Moodubelle parish (now belong to St Antony parish, Kuntalnagar), settled in marriage with Clifford D’Mello, parishioner of Pangla – Shankerpura, near here. Clifford served as president of Rotary Club of Shankerpura and involved in social welfare activities, while Leena is active in health camps that are held periodically in their locality.
She began her career as nurse with KMC Hospital, after completing general nursing. Meanwhile, she had burning desire to pursue higher education. Her husband who was working overseas returned home for good helped Leena to continue her studies. She pursued B Sc and M Sc and employed as assistant professor at Manipal College of Nursing. Clifford and Leena couple has 2 children, Chris and Kristen and they live with their elderly mother Celestine.
