Vamanjoor, Mangalore, 07 April 2011: CIPHER the computer science association of SJEC held its first ever national level fest “AURORA” from 7th April to 9th April 2011. Being a national level fest it composes of a good number of events that test the skills and knowledge of the participants. The chief guest for the function was Shri Upendra Prabhu N. who is the General Manager of Karnataka Bank.
The Guest of Honour was Mr Niel Antony Rodrigues who is the Project Manager at Infosys Ltd. Other dignitaries included Rev. Fr Valerian D’Souza who presided over the ceremony,Rev. Fr Joseph Lobo the Designate Director, Dr. Rio D’Souza, Dean Academic and Dr. Damien D’Mello, HOD of Computer Science Engineering, SJEC.
The function began by the invocation of the Divine which was led by the choir. The welcome speech was given by Ms Supriya Salian who is the Staff Coordinator for the association. Ms Manasa Shetty, President of the association briefed the gathering of the events that would be held in the upcoming days. This was followed by the Lighting of the Lamp which officially declared Aurora open.
The Chief Guest, Shri Upendra Prabhu N. addressed the gathering wherein he voiced his appreciation for the organisers. He mentioned that students should use this opportunity as a platform to exchange ideas and knowledge wherein he also mentioned that academics alone is like an entry ticket to get a job in any organization. The employees’ future lies in his ability to interact and develop on his own.
The Guest of Honour Mr. Niel Antony Rodrigues in his thought provoking message stated “its passion that drives the minds of people without which success is not possible”. He also appreciated the event managers who made the hosting of the various events possible with their support. The remainder of the dignitaries advised the gathered and in general stressed upon the fact that the youth of today have to think outside the box in order to make change and development possible as the future of the nation lies in their hands.
The dignitaries were then felicitated to thank them for their presence. The curtains were drawn on the inauguration ceremony with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr Damien D’Mello thereby declaring the fest open to all. An “AURORA 11” experience was lying ahead to all those who had come to face the challenges posed by the events.
