Moodubelle, 05 April 2011: Moodubelle witnessed two hours of traffic chaos between 9.30 and 11.30 am on Tuesday, 5 April 2011, the busy weekly market day due to the breakdown of a tipper coming from Karkala and moving towards Udupi. As the tipper could not move in spite of the efforts of the driver to restart it, it blocked the road and vehicles could not move in either direction. A number of people tried to push the immobilized tipper to a side. However, the efforts ended in a failure.
As time passed, more and more vehicles, large and small began to pile up on the road. As already many vehicles had been parked on both sides of the road, this situation created unprecedented traffic chaos. The day being the weekly market day, it added to the inconvenience of not only the vehicle drivers, passengers in buses and rickshaws but also to the pedestrians.
Eventually, another tipper coming from Udupi side managed to push the tipper that had broken down and the driver could move it slowly to the service station.
The traffic problems in Moodubelle have been increasing by passing days. The breakdown of any heavy vehicle such as the tipper in the middle of the road is enough to throw the entire traffic in disarray. Lack of sufficient parking space is choking the township. It is high time that for heavy vehicles such as tippers and trucks and even buses a bypass to the township of Moodubelle is the need f the time. Has the administration right from the grama panchayat to the Zilla Panchayat has any plans to avoid such traffic chaos in future?
