Manipal, 27 March 2011: “Atomic energy and solar energy are to be increased to solve power problem” opinioned Dr. Anil Kakodkar – Former President of Indian Atomic Energy Committee. He spoke upon receiving the Excellent Konkni person award from Manipal Dr. T. M. A. Pai Foundation. He further said that electricity is a must for a normal standard of living. In order to reduce the gap between the electricity demand and supply these two energy sources need to be utilized.
The function was conducted at Vally View Hotel Manipal. Dr. Anil Kakodkar also said that the capacity of higher education should be increased. Human resources should be strengthened. Science should be taken into the society so that the common man can get the benefit from it.
Excellent Konkni person awards were given to Dr. Kakodkar, Senior Journalist Dr. M. V. Kamath, I.I.T. Retired Dean Dr. Aravin Kudankar, Syndicate Bank Retired Joint Director and Former Secretary of Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation late H. V. Kamath. Excellent Konkani Book award was given to Melvin Rodrigues of Mangalore. Appreciation award was given to Jerry D’mello of Mangalore and Ramesh G. Ladd of Madgaon.
On behalf of late H. V. Kamath his daughter Purnima V. Shenoy, on behalf of Jerry D’mello Kallianpura Milagres College Principal Dr. Gerald Pinto received the award. President of the foundation T. Mohandas Pai, Dr. V. A. Pai Panandikar and Dean of Manipal University Dr. Ramadas Pai gave away the awards.
India is an developing country, to lead in the international level educational excellence is required. We have the education system. The education which is student centered needs to be changed into teacher centered, said Dr. Aravind Kudandkar.
T. Mohandas Pai welcomed the guests and the gathering. Dr. Pushpa G. Kini, Dr. Raghuvir Pai, Dr. Muralidhar Pai, Dr. Shrikanth Rao, Victor F. D’Souza, U. Vidhyavantha Acharya, B. Shantharam Baliga introduced the awardees. Dr. H. Shantharam compeered the program.
