Udupi, 29 July 2016: Prof. Vincent Alva of Pamboor and Professor of English literature in the Milagres College, Kallianpur was conferred with Ph.D. Degree by the Mangalore University for his research thesis titled ’Interpreting and Interrogating Indian Traditions: A Study of the Fictional Works of Gita Mehta, Shashi Tharoor and Rohinton Mistry’. He was guided by Prof D R Shashidhara, Department of English, Mangalore University.
Having completed his initial education, Dr. Vincent Alva graduated from the Poorna Prajna College, Udupi. He acquired Masters Degree in English Literature from the Mangalore University. After teaching English language and literature for many years at the Pompei College, Aikala, Dr. Vincent Alva joined Milagres College, Kallianpur as an Associate Professor of English.
Dr. Vincent Alva is a multi-talented personality. He has been a well-known and respected Master of Ceremonies. He is a renowned writer in Konkani, English and Kannada. His articles, stories and columns continually appear in print and electronic media. He has translated Jnana Pita Awardee, U.R. Ananthamoorthy’s Novel Samskara into Konkani, which has been published by Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy. He had served Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy as one of its members.
Being a lover of literature, arts and culture, Dr. Vincent Alva was instrumental in starting ‘Parichaya’ at Pamboor to bring awareness among the people about the rich heritage of classical arts, literature, drama, music and folk culture.
