Udupi: Ln. Wilson Rodrigues takes charge of Lions Club of Shirva-Manchakal as President

Udupi, 02 Jul 2016: Ln. Wilson Rodrigues, a well-known advocate and member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat took charge of the Lions Club of Shirva-Manchakal as the President for the second successive year in a well organized Installation Ceremony on Saturday, 2 July 2016 at 7.30 am at Sanghamithra Sabha Bhavan, Kaup Road Shirva. Ln. V.G. Shetty, mjf, District Governor’s Programme Coordinator conducted the Installation ceremony in the presence of dignitaries and Lion members from Shirva-Manchkal as well as neighbouring Lions Clubs. Along with Ln. Wilson Rodrigues. Ln. Melwyn Aranha was installed as the Secretary and Ln. Gregory Fernandes took charge as the Treasurer.

 

The Installation ceremony was attended by Ln. Gangadhar Birthi-Region Chairman, Ln. Ashok Shetty-Zone Chairman, Rev.  Fr. Stany Tauro-Parish Priest of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva and Rev. Fr. Mahesh D’Souza-Principal of Don Bosco High School, Shirva.

 

In his Installation address, Ln. V. G. Shetty highlighted the origin and service activities of the  Lions Club International throughout the world. He said that service to humanity has been the chief motto of the Lions Club International. As this year happens to be the centenary of the foundation of the Lions Club International by philanthropist visionary Melwyn Jones, the Lions Club International has chalked out many programmes including empowering of the youth, vision care, relieving hunger and protection of environment.

 

 

During the installation ceremony, Ln. V.G. Shetty reminded all the office bearers their responsibilities and functions and asked them to carry on these tasks to the best of their ability and in the interest of Lionism.

 

Ln. V.G. Shetty also inducted four  persons as new members of the Lions Club of Shirva-Manchakal. These four members are: Ln. Vincent Ivan Mathias, Ln. Henry D’Souza, Ln.  Albert D’Souza and Ln. Arun Noronha.

 

As part of service activities students who scored highest marks in SSLC and PUC examinations were felicitated and were given cash prizes. Economically weak students were given financial assistance for their education and a student  was provided with financial help to meet medical expenses. Babu, who has been serving in the Shirva Panchayat for many years was felicitated on this occasion.

 

In his message, Rev. Fr. Stany Tauro said that Lions Club of Shirva has been doing a lot of good work in various fields. He appreciated the way in which Ln. V.G. Shetty conducted the Installation Ceremony and said that through his speech he could understand the significance of Lionism and wished Ln. Wilson Rodrigues and his team well.

 

Region Chairman, Ln. Gangadhar Birthi and Zone Chairman Ln. Ashok Shetty complimented Ln. Wilson Rodrigues and his team and appreciated the entire programme as it was conducted with dignity and in time.

 

Ln. Wilson Rodrigues welcomed the guests, Ln. Melwyn Aranha proposed the vote of thanks and Ln. Wilson D’Souza compered the programme.
