Kaup, 25 February 2011: “Nagarjuna Power Plant has been violating the environmental norms and with this project it will reach to a stage when the agricultural land and western ghats of the coastal area will be polluted” said former MLA U. R. Sabhapathi. He was addressing the gathering who were protesting as part of the Padayathre for public awareness on Nagarjuna Bandh, on Friday.
Speaking further he said that already the Seer of Mutt, Farmers, Fishermen and the people of coastal area have expressed their opposition to this Power Plant. The purpose of this Padayathre is to spread awareness among the people on the problems caused by the fly ash which is being discharged by this power plant.
Kaup Vidhyanikethana Group of Educational Institutions Head K. P. Acharya formally gave chalan to the Padayathre and said that in order to protect the coastal area which was created by Parashurama, there is a need to get all the parties under one umbrella and protest against the projects such as Nagarjuna.
