Bantwal, 17 Apr 2016: The residents living in the limits of Amtady gram panchayat, near here are alarmed over the outbreak of several cases of dengue and malaria.
Sixteen dengue and one malaria cases were detected in a colony at the limits of Amtady. A few victims have already recovered after treatment, while Lalita, Ratna, Dhanu Kirti, Chetan and Priya, students – Deepika and Ritesh are under treatment in a private hospital at Thumbay, near here.
The local leaders informed the gram panchayat officials and taluk panchayat officers about the outbreak of fever in their colony, while the officials did not bother to attend. When the local leaders complained to district health officer, he visited the private hospital in Thumbay, near here where the victims are under treatment. He also inspected the surroundings of the village.
Upon inspection, the officer found water stagnated in many drains of several plantations and areca leaves are rotten in it that was the breeding ground for mosquitoes. He also instructed the gram panchayat and taluk panchayat officials to take precautionary measures by fogging the area and sensitize people about the outbreak of communicable diseases.
The fogging in plantations and homes was done here on Saturday April 16.
