Sakinaka, Mumbai, 17 February 2011: Tulu community in Mumbai have been practicing the art and culture of their native place even in Mumbai. With their efforts the Yakshagana is becoming popular in Mumbai these days. Many Yakshagana Mandali’s in Mumbai have been serving in this field and one of them is Sri Durgaparameshwari Kripa Poshitha Yakshagana Kala Mithra Mandali which was established in 1967.
Kala Mandali will be organizing 44th annual Mahotsava on Saturday 19th February 2011 in a grand manner. On Saturday morning Gana Homa, Satyanarayan Maha Pooja, Bhajana by Nityananda Bhajana mandali, Maha Pooja, Annasantharpane and then in the evening procession of Godess Shree Durgaparameshwari with various costumes will take place. On the next day Sunday evening Lalitha Sahasranama by women members, classical dances by children, stage function and Tulu field drama “Shanishwara Mahathme” will be conducted.
In the stage program Jerimeri Sri Umamaheshwari Mandir Chief Priest Shri S. N. Udupa will be the chief guest. Also G. T. Acharya, Madhav Shetty, Mohan A. Poojary and Dinesh K. Devadiga – Hon. Secretary of Tulu Kannadiga Welfare Association will be present. On this occasion Senior Socialworker Raghu M. Shetty and Mandali Chief Bhagavatha Sadashiv M. Chandan will be honoured. Sri Devadatha Bhuvaji Yakshagana Prashasti will be given to popular Yakshagana comedy artist Raja R. Thumbe.

Raghu Muddanna Shetty is a senior social worker and has been a great donor to many organizations in Mumbai. His efforts to the construction of Mandali Mandir are highly appreciable. Saki Mohili Ayyappa Bakhthavranda had honoured him in 2006. Sadashiva M. Chandan has been the senior Bhagavath of Mandali. He was the student of Bottikere Purushotham Poonja and served in Kantheshwara Mela for 2 years and later gave performances in various roles in Mumbai. He has been honoured by Jaibhavani Shaneeshwara Mandir Ghatkoppar, Shaneeshwara Seva Samithi Vasinaka, Western India Shaneeshwara Seva Samithi and other such organizations.
During 1967 in Sakinaka Mumbai under the leadership of late Devadatha Bhuvaji and with the blessings of Keerthishesha late Gopalakrishna Asranna, Sri Durgaparameshwari Kripa Poshitha Yakshagana Kala Mithra Mandali was established. Since then Sri Durgaparameshwari Kripa Poshitha Yakshagana Kala Mithra Mandali gave countless number of performances, which contributed in the survival and growth of Yakshagana and also supported many artists.
Along with the contribution to Yakshagana Sri Durgaparameshwari Yakshagana Mandali has been also established itself forming a Pooja Samithee and serving in other fields such as education, religious and cultural activities. Mandali has been sponsoring distributing free school books to the poor school children of the surrounding areas.
Senior artists of the Mandali, Kateel Sadanada Shetty and Monoj Hejamadi has been providing free training in Yakshagana to the interested school children. Women members of the Mandali have been conducting the programs such as Haladi-Kunkuma frequently. In the Mandali Mandir Sri Durgaparameshwari Amma, Sri Ganapathi, Sri Nithyanandaguru Pooja is being performed every day by the Chief Priest K. Kamalaksha Moili.
