Udupi: Kolalgiri Team lifts Inter Diocese Jasmine Trophy held at St. John’s Ground Shankerpura

Pangala/S.Pura, 05 Jan 2016: In a thrilling finals of Inter Diocese Cricket Tournament, team from Kolalgiri Parish managed to beat Pamboor Parish team comfortably. The Jasmine Inter-diocese Cricket tournament was initiated by St. John’s Parish Under the banner St. John’s Sports Club, Pangla, Shankerpura. It holds match every year inviting all the parishes of the diocese.

 

This year tournament was held on 3rd Jan 2016 at St. John’s Ground Shankerpura. 12 teams from the diocese took part in this tournament namely, St. John’s Shankerpura, Kolalgiri Parish, Pernal Parish, St. Antony Kuntalnagar, Holy Cross Pamboor, Mother of Health Shirva, St. Lawrence Moodubelle, Mother of Sorrows Udupi, St. Vincent De Paul Katpady, St. Joseph’s Belman, and St. Francis Xavier Udyavar.

 

The inaugural of the tournament was held in the morning at 8:30am and Rev. Fr. Vincent Coello (Principal, PU college) inaugurated the tournament while Mark Vaz (Vice President, Parish Councll) inaugurated the Pangla team uniforms. During the inaugural function, Bro Joshwin, Ms. Clara Mendonsa, Simi D’Souza were present.

 

 

Soon after the inaugural function, league matches were held and teams, Shankerpura, Pernal, Pamboor and Kolalgiri reached the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, teams Pamboor and Kolalgiri emerged as winners and in the finals, Kolalgiri beat Pamboor team to lift the prestigious Jasmine Trophy of St. John’s Sports Club, Pangala.

 

Mark Martis, a veteran Pangala and Dubai Cricketer was the main sponsor as well played for Pangala team.

 

The Prize Distribution ceremony was held in the evening and Micheal Castelino, a well known Pangalites, former cricketer distributed the trophies to the winners.
