Puttur, 25 Nov 2015: ‘Trafficking in human beings is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights,’ said ASP of Puttur sub division Rishant.
He was speaking after inaugurating an awareness programme on Anti Human Trafficking, organized jointly by Centre for Research and PG Studies of St Philomena College, here and Anti Human Trafficking Unit of DK district at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the College on Tuesday November 24.
‘Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad,’ he added.
Puttur town sub-inspector Mahesh Prasad gave a preliminary address.
Nancy and Geetha Prabhu of Freedom Foundation, Bengaluru participated as the resource persons.
Professor Leo Noronha, principal graced the occasion.
Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairman of Centre for Research and PG Studies presided the function.
