Doha, 06 February 2011: Konkani music today is going through a unique phase. The last one decade could well be called as the spring time of Konkani music. A number of up and coming musicians have stormed into the Konkani music world with experiments, innovation and quality. A super fusion of traditional melodies with modern styles has surely given a fillip to the growth and nurturing of Konkani music.
Yet one could well say that none of the Konkani music albums of the day are complete without a touch of folk and baila that have been the identity of the Konkani music for long. Legends such as Wilfy, Jerome and others’ selfless contribution is yielding immense results as the younger generation has developed a taste for Konkani music which is a good sign for all. Along with this, even pop, jazz, rock or even bhangra type has made it into Konkani music world, thanks to the creative composers, innovative musicians and encouraging audience.
Amidst the inflow of young blood into Konkani music world, some of the established and popular composers have still been steadfast and they have adapted and contributed with the same zeal and love for Konkani. Norbert Pereira is one such musician who despite being away from the native has regularly contributed in his own way. The man best known for popular numbers such a ‘Rita Mojha Moga’, ‘Prathver Kallok Mandtana’, ‘Mira’,‘Maria’, ‘Paavs’, ‘Kazar’ etc has now come up with his latest music album ‘Do Re Me Fa’. Norbert has carved a niche in Konkani music world through his earlier releases ‘Love Hits’, ‘Konkani Pops’, ‘Tuzo-Muzo Mog’ and ‘Naach Naach’.
‘Do Re Me Fa’ again is a rich proof of immense talent of Norbert. His distinct love for pop has always been the hallmark of compositions. But each of his compositions has a touch of native land and that makes him special with his fans. ‘Do Re Me Fa’ which contains 13 numbers has an equal blend of baila, folk and tradition. Each of the songs is penned and set to tune by Norbert himself. Roshan D’Souza Angelore, the numero uno musician of Gen-X Konkani musicians has again proved that he is one of the best in the business right now. Roshan’s possession for perfection and desire to be different makes him popular perhaps.
Renowned singers such as Claud D’Souza, Prakash D’Souza, Babita Pinto, Ravindra Prabhu, Maxim Pereira, Monita Veigas have lent their mellifluous voice to some of the melodious numbers along with Norbert and his wife Nancy. But Konkani music world will always remember Norbert’s ‘Do Re Me Fa’ for another reason. Norbert has introduced 2010 Gulf Voice of Mangalore singers from Qatar. While Rupert Sunil Lobo, the most melodious and popular finalist of second edition of Gulf Voice of Mangalore has come up with a solo number, first runner-up in the female category Preema Pinto has sung a melodious and ear-catching duet along with her equally talented life partner Naveen Pinto, a semi-finalist at GVOM Qatar and Sunita Tellis, a finalist from 2008 edition too has lent her voice to a female duet.
Norbert’s both sons Dr. Nigel and Nester are accomplished musicians and have performed in several stage shows. Nester who had first been spotted when he joined hands with his father for ‘Tuzo-Muzo Mog’ album two years ago too has contributed again, a firm assurance that he is well on way to continue in his illustrious father’s footsteps.
All in all this soon-to-be-released album has lots in store for Konkani music buffs, both young and old. Meanwhile those who would like to market this album in Bahrain, Oman, UAE and Saudi Can contact Norbert on his e-mail ednogem@yahoo.com
