Moodubelle, 06 February 2011: The District Governor of the International Association of Lions Clubs, District 324-D4, MJF Ln. K. Jayakar Shetty paid official visit to the Lions Club of Moodubelle on Saturday, 5th February 2011 at 7.30 pm.
Following the prayer song sung by Brenda Martis and Carol D’Souza, Ln. Devdas Hebbar welcomed the chief guest, MJF Ln. K. Jayakar Shetty and other dignitaries on the dais. On this occasion two new members: Ex-subhedars in the Indian Army- Alex D’Almeida and Uaday Poojary were inducted as the members of the Lions Club of Moodubelle following the administration of the oath by the District Governor. With the induction of two new members, the total membership of the Lions Club of Moodubelle as reached 32.
In his address as the chief guest, MJF Ln. K. Jayakar Shetty briefly narrated the origin and growth of the Lions Club movement and greatly appreciated the good social work that has been carried out by the Lions Club of Modubelle under the able leadership of the charter president MJF Ln. Commodore Jerome Castelino.
On this occasion, Fr. Paul Sequeira, principal of St. Lawrence Composite PU College who is also a member of the Lions Club of Modubelle was felicitated on completing 50 years of his life. His birthday will be on 8th February 2011. Commodore Jerome Castelino introduced Fr. Paul Sequeira with high appreciation about Fr. Paul Sequeira’s contribution to the grow of St. Lawrence Composite PU College and said that he had two dreams, one to provided Midday Meal to the high school and PU College students and to introduce science section in the PU College. Both these dreams have been fulfilled. The Midday Meal scheme was started with the support from the Lions Club which was handed over to the management after one year of its successful running by the Lions Club.
Fr. Paul Sequeira formally cut the birthday cake and MJF Ln. K. Jayakar Shetty presented him a gift on behalf of the Lions Club of Moodubelle. Replying to the felicitation that was accorded to him, Fr. Paul Sequeira thanked the Lions Club of Moodubelle for the honour and expressed his happiness to work in the educational institution in Moodubelle and recalled the support that has been given to him by the people in general and the Lions Club of Moodubelle in particular.
Commodore Jerome Castelino and Mrs. Rose Castelinoo who had celebrated 50 years of their wedding on 26th December 2010 were honoured by the District Governor.
Region chairman, Vijaykumar Shetty and Fr. Joswey Fernandes, parish priest of Moodubelle also spoke on this occasion. Ln. Cyril D’Souza, president of the Lions Club of Moodubelle presided over the function, Lns. Lilly Lobo compeered the programme and Ln. Henry Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
