Manama, Bahrain, 31 January 2011: Under the able leadership of Mr. Rajkumar, President, Bahrain Kannada Sangha, several Associations of Kannadiga’s gathers at the Kannada Sangha premises to discuss and present the grievances of all Kannadiga’s residing in the island for better air connectivity from Bahrain to Mangalore and few other north and south Karnataka destinations, and give Mangalore Airport the well deserved International status.
The memorandum also high lighted the unfair airfare compared to neighboring cities in Kerala state. Since Air India Express is rated as a Budget airline, it is been requested to bring down the airfare.
At present there are around 200,000 kannadiga’s reside in this Island, and several from neighboring Kasargod dist, who use Mangalore airport. The present airfare is very high for the low income group, who use this sector for traveling. Request for additional International Airports at Hubli, Belgaum and Bellary must be started.
Even the memorandum consist of a request to introduce Bahrain-Doha-Bangalore-Mangalore flight services, because at present the passengers from Bangalore suffer form the inconvenience cause because of the flight change in either Doha, Dubai or Muscat. So by introducing these services this problem can be solved.
Since the arrival of flights from gulf, specially from Bahrain is during late evening, it was suggested to introduce coach services from Airport to Mangalore railway station, bus stand and Udupi city , with a nominal price, which will help the low income passengers.
During the discussion, few members pressed for the right of voting for NRI’s and showed their disappointment at the delay in passing this resolution in the parliament. It is the right of all Indian to choose their candidates, who can represent them in Government.
The memorandum was handed over to Mr. Vaylar Ravi, Indian Minister for NRI Affairs and Civil Aviation, on Thursday 27th January 2011 at a function organized by the CCIA (Co-ordination Committee of Indian Associations) in the Indian School Auditorium.
The Minister assured that the grievances will be discussed and, he will try his best to do the needful to reduce the airfare.
