Udupi: Beach Utsav in Malpe begins

Malpe, Udupi, 30 January 2011: Malpe beach which attracts tourists from all around the world, was different on Saturday as the people of all ages gathered there in huge numbers. In the Beach Utsav that started here on Saturday have varieties of food and entertainment programs. Janapada games, entertaining cultural programs and various fish, chicken and vegetarian food items were the main attractions.

 

The Beach Utsav was inaugurated with the releasing of balloons by Higher Education Minister Dr. V.S. Acharya. Upon inauguration he said that the government is working towards the development of the coastal areas and will provide all the support and encouragement to make this Beach Utsav annually. Along with the development, entertainment programs are also provided, he said.

 

 

D.V. Sadanada Gowda, MP inaugurated the sports. Later he inaugurated the fish stall at the Utsav and tasted some of the fish items. K. Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, presided over the function. Other guests and dignitaries present on the occasion were Sudhakar Shetty – President of City Development, Gokuldas Nayak, Kiran Kumar – President of City Corporation, Bharathi Chandrashekar – Deputy President of City Coporation, Naveen Bhandary – Member of City Corporation and others.

 

 

Yashpal Suvarna – Convener of the Utsav Committee welcomed the guests and the gathering. Suresh Shetty – Member of City Corporation compeered the program. Sports competitions such as Vollyball, throwball, cycle race and beach kabaddi were played among state level teams. In the evening magic show and dance programs were held.

 

On Sunday 30th January, competitions such as tug-of-war, boat race, kite flying, sand sculptures, swimming, fishing with nets, fishing with hooks will take place. In the evening the closing ceremony will be there.
