Udupi, 09 Oct 2015: National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross wing, (YRC) and Rotaract Club of Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, near here, in association with the blood bank of KMC - Manipal, Prasad Netralaya - Udupi and JCI - Udupi City, organized one-day blood donation and free eye check-up camps at the institute premises on Monday October 5.
Dr Shamee Shastry, doctor-in-charge, KMC Blood Bank, Manipal inaugurated the camp.
Dr Kavitha from Prasad Netralaya, Udupi; Professor Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, Professor Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat and Professor Dr A Ganesha, director, principal and dean (Academics) of SMVITM, Vinay Acharya, Jagadeesh Shetty and Raghavendra Prabhu, president, vice president and secretary of JCI - Udupi City respectively; NSS/YRC co-ordinator Nagaraja Rao, Prashanth M D, Kishore Kumar Aroor, members of the NSS, YRC and Rotaract Club and student volunteers were present during the inaugural function.
The blood donation camp began with the director, principal and dean donating blood. More than 200 people, including members of the faculty, staff and students of SMVITM donated blood and a total of 200 units of blood were collected at the camp. Around 100 people, including the members of the public, staff and students of SMVITM got their eyes tested at the eye check-up camp.
In the same occasion, Rathnakumar, secretary, SSVMET inaugurated the campus gardening initiation program.
Professor Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, director, Professor Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, Professor Dr A Ganesha, dean (academics); Kishor Kumar Aroor and Nagaraja Rao co-ordinators of Rotaract Club and NSS units of SMVITM respectively, heads of various departments, members of the Rotaract Club and NSS unit; members, of the faculty & staff and many students attended the programme.
Planting of flower plants along with making lawns were done by the members of the clubs as part of the program. The initiative was taken up as part of the on-going efforts to make the campus greener and more beautiful.
