Moodubelle, 23 January 2011: The annual School Day was celebrated with great fanfare in the Higher Primary School, Marne on Saturday, 22nd January 2011. In the morning at 9.30 am, Hasan Shaikh Ahmed, President of the Manipura Grama Panchyat hoisted the flag. This programme was followed by the distribution of prizes and sweets to the school children.
The stage programme was organised in the evening from 5 pm. Lalaji R mendon, MLA of Kaup Constituency presided over the programme. The chif guest was S. Vasanta Shetty (KES). The guests of honour were: Murali Shetty, President of the INTUC Labour Union, Dudupi District, Mrs. Stella Ida D’Souza, member of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Gurudas Bhandary, Udupi Taluk Panchayat member. Other dignitaries on the stage included A. Ganapati Kini, President of the School Administrative Committee, Devendra Nayak, Karunakara Karkera-President of the Schol Development Council, Dayananda Nayak, Headmaster and K. Vasant Shetty-Headmaster of Vishnumurthi High School, Kudigrama and K. Krishnamurthy Acharya-Delhi Kannadiga Prashsthi winner.
Following the prayer by the school children, A Ganapati kini welcomed the guests and the Headmaster, Dayananda Nayak read out the report of the school. Prizes were distributed to students for their academic, cultural and sports achievements by all the guests present on the stage. The dignitaries on the stage including Lalaji R. Mendon, Devendra Nayak, Karunakar Karkera, K. Krishnamurthy Acharaya were felicitated.
Lalaji R. Mendon inaugurated the compound wall of the school that was built from the MLA’s developmental grant of Rs. 3 Lakhs. TV and Dish Antenna donated to the school by Devendra Nayak were also inaugurated by Lalaji R. Mendon. K. Krishnamurthy Acharya donated plates, unforms and fans to the school and Karunakara Karkera donated notebooks to the students.
In his speech, Lalaji R. Mendon said that change is the law of nature and students should boldly face the changes and prepare themselves to meet the challenges of the future by acquiring modern education. That is why the schools are adopting computer education.
Vasant Shetty, Mrs. Stella Ida D’Souza and Dayananda Nayak also spoke on this occasion. The entertainment programme comprised of dance by the students and a Tulu Play titled “Kode, Ini, Elle” written and directed by Vijayakumar, Kodilabail.
Mrs. Rathi and Krishna Naik compeered the programme and and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dayananda Nayak.
