Mangalore: Beach Utsav begins at Panamboor

Panamboor, 22 January 2011: Though it was not a holiday, on Friday 21 January 2011, there was huge gathering of people at Panaboor beach. Kites of various designs, Beach volleyball, Beach throw ball, dance performance of the chosen 20 groups, laser show, and opportunity to taste and enjoy variety of food fiesta and along with it is the natures natural beauty was the attraction in this Beach Utsav.

 

Mayor Rajani Dugganna formally inaugurated the program by flying the Kite and later she inaugurated the Beach volleyball and Food fiesta. Prabhulinga Kavalikatte of Mangalore Division said that all the arrangements were already completed well in advance for the Utsav and the provision was made for the public to completely utilize the facility. Yathish Bikampady of Utsav committee, Old Bandar Officer Mohan Kudri and others were present on the occasion.

 

“Team India” the professional Kite team who has been drawing attention in the International events had showcased some attractive kites. Some of those were of the scenes of Yakshagana, Durge, Kathakalli, Giduga and other designs. Sarwesh Rao of Team India said that on Saturday evening about 25 designs of kites including “Pushpak Viman” will be flown.

 

 

Mayor visited the food stalls of Taluk Mahila Mandala and tasted the coastal traditional snacks. There were home made snacks and food items such as Idli, Appam, Nirudose, Chicken, Egg masala and many such items were on the offer. Dayamani Kotyan and Jayalakshmi said that, in the previous year the food fiesta was a huge success, so this year also they again made their efforts.

 

Beach volleyball and throw ball and boating in sea will continue on Saturday also. On Sunday the last day; Skating, Boating, Swimming competitions, Boat race, Sand sculpture competition, Dance final competition between the selected five teams and also the “Rasamanjari” by Rajesh Krishnan and Chaithra and the other programs will be there to conclude the event.

 

At the beach on Saturday, Perry Jotland a Norwegian, seeing the kite exhibition expressed it as very nice. He said he came to India for the fifth time and this time he came 20 days ago. In order to see the Beach Utsav he postponed his returning back to his country. In the place in Norway where he lives the temperature is -10 degree now and he feels that the weather in coastal Karnataka is excellent. He is married to a girl from Kulshekar.

 

Upon the requests from the media persons Mayor Rajani Dugganna nervously climbed through steel ladder and sat on the back of a camel and gave pose to the photographers. Though the media persons requested her to stay seated, she came down in a short while.
