Mumbai, 10 Aug 2015: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road® organized Konkani talent contest at Terrace Hall of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road here on Sunday August 9.
The competition was conducted in fancy dress, elocution, singing, dance and comical skit categories. The competition was held for the parishioners of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road.
Famous Konkani writer, poet and critic Vally Quadros, famous singer Jerry Bondel, famous actor and critic Francis Olivera were the jurors.
Fr Melvyn D’Cunha OCD, spiritual director of the Association and parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road inaugurated the competition by a prayer. He welcomed the jurorss with bouquets.
John Crasta, president of Association, Arun Noronha, secretary, Hilary D’Silva, cultural secretary and other members were present on the occasion.
After the competition, judges praised the participants, saying that the level of the competition was much better than what they expected.
Francis Olivera said that he had heard that Mira Road is known as mini Mangalore and today he understood why it is called mini Mangalore. The talent competition conducted by the Association is really praiseworthy and he praised the efforts taken by the St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association for the betterment of Konkani by organising such talent competitions.
Jerry Bondel remembered the co-operation given by the Association for the Jerry Nite organised by him at Mira Road.
Vally Quadros congratulated all participants.
