Udupi, 12 Jul 2015: Rotary Shankerpura and Rotary Trust Shankerpura jointly with Prasad Natralaya Super-speciality Eye Hospital, Udupi and District Health and Family Welfare Society, Udupi organised Free Eye Camp on Sunday, 12th July 2015 between 09.30am to 12.30 noon at Rotary Centenary Bhavan, Shankerpura.
As in previous years, this year, also Free Eye Camp was sponsored by Dr. B. Narayana Bhat and Family, Biliyaru, (USA) in memory of his parents Late Smt. Krishnaveni and Late Shri.Govinda Bhat. Followed by the Prayer from Rtn. Vincent Saldanha, Past President of Rotary Shankerpura and welcome speech from President of the Club, Rtn. Clifford D’ Mello, the Camp was inaugurated by Shri.B.Padmanabha Bhat by lighting the lamp.
Shri. Padmanabha Bhat in his brief inaugural speech advised the patients to take the benefit of these camps being organised by Rotary Shankerpura every year. Rtn. Francis D’ Sa, Zonal Leutenenat, RI Dist 3180, Zone III and member of Rotary Shankerpura delivered introductory talk. Rtn. Sathyandra Pai, Assistant Governor, RI Dist 3180, Zone III, praised Rotary Shankerpura for their service to the community and suggested to hold such camps in all 13 clubs of the Zone. Dr. Nityananda Nayak, in his speech advised the patients the importance of camp and complete process and benefits. He strongly recommended regular eye check-up for diabetic patients and all school going children once a year. He praised the members of Rotary Club for their selfless service to mankind.
The patients were examined by Dr. Dr. Nityananda Nayak, Secretary, District Blindness Prevention Department, Government Hospital, Udupi and Dr. Kavita Kiran from Prasad Natralaya Udupi. They were assisted by a team of staff, a Medical Counsellor and Rotarians in large number. Out of 152 patients examined during the camp, 95 patients were recommended optical lenses and 30 for Cataract operation.
Also present on the dais Dr. Kavita Kiran, from Prasad Nitralaya, Rtn. Anil D Sa, Club Secretary, Rtn. Jerome Rodrigues, President Rotary Trust. The vote of thanks was delivered by Rotary Trust Secretary Rtn. Dr. Edward Lobo.
