Udupi, 29 Jun 2015: Like in previous years, 6 meritorious SSLC students, three each from St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School and St. Lawrence English Medium High School and 6 meritorious PUC students of St. Lawrence PU College were given cash prizes totalling over one lakh of rupees by B. Ravindranath Rao , son of late Belle Padmavati Rao (former Vidhan Parishad member) in memory of his mother and late Prof. Belle Bhavani Rao. The function honouring 12 meritorious students of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions, Moodubelle was organized on Monday, 29 June 2015 at 2.30 pm in St. Lawrence PU College Hall.
The Pratibha Puraskar 2015 function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. I. Chandrashekhar Rao, B.Tech, PGPIM-Retired CEO and Director of Jindal Polly Films Ltd. Was the chief guest. Ravindranath Rao and his wife, B. Sadananda Rao and his wife, Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College, J.B. Miranda-member of the Managing Committee, A.K. Alva-Vice President of the Parish Council and Mrs. Leena D’Silva-Senior Teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School were on the dais.
Following the prayer song and welcome address by Rev. Fr. Paul Sequeira, B. Sadananda Rao, retired teacher from Church Aided Higher Primary School, Moodubelle and cousin of Ravindranath Rao briefly traced the family history of his family and pointed out the fact that in spite of great difficulties their grandparents, parents and themselves acquired education. In fact, B. Sadananda Rao’s grandfather, Dasappayya started the first primary school in Moodubelle which was later handed over to the church which just completed a century in 2013. Further he said that even the poorest of the poor can get education as there are philanthropists like B. Ravindranath Rao who are ready to help such students.
Karunakara Rao introduced the chief guest of the function, I. Chandrashekhar Rao and highlighted his achievements in different aluminium companies and his rise in the hierarchy of the administrative structure.
In his motivating message to the students, I. Chandrasheekhar Rao said that right kind of attitude, belief in one’s own capacity, self-confidence, right kind of choices and commitment , discipline , education-both formal and informal, focus and goals in life and career would enable one to achieve success. Through his own examples, I. Chandrashekhar Rao pointed out how these factors could work miracles.
The dignitaries on the dais gave away cash prizes to the 12 meritorious students from three institutions belonging to St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. The best teacher award was given to Ms. Alvina D’Souza, PU Science lecturer by A.K. Alva.
B. Ravindranath rao and his wife were honoured by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas with shawl and flower bouquet.
Certificate of appreciation for 95% result in SSLC of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School, awarded by the Department of Education was handed over by Rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas to the Senior Teacher of the school, Mrs. Leena D’Silva.
In his presidential address, rev. Fr. Clement Mascarenhas sa greatly appreciated the generosity shown by B. Ravindranath Rao in sponsoring cash awards to the meritorious students of the intuitions. He also appreciated the fine message given by the chief guest of the function, I. Chandrashekhar Rao and asked the students to emulate the examples given by him.
Mrs. Leena D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Chandrakala compered the programme.
