Mangaluru, 02 Jun 2015: Senior leaders from major political parties and police personnel joined hundreds of well-wishers at the armed reserve police commissioner’s office here to pay their last respects to former DySP B J Bhandary, who passed away in an accident in Brahmavar.
Bhandary’s mortal remains were kept for public viewing in city on Tuesday, June 2. Former DySP and President’s medal winner B J Bhandary died in a road mishap in Brahmavar on Monday, June 1.
Addressing the gathering General Secretary of Retired Police Officers’Association Manjunath stated that by forming the association B J Bhandary fought for the welfare of retired police officers.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, IGP Amrit Paul, Police Commissioner S Murugan, SP Dr Sharanappa, ADC Sadashiva Prabhu, retired DySp Sharif, retired ASI Abbas, retired SP Mitra Peraje, retired SP Harishchndra, retired SP Punja, retired DySp M N Shetty and many others paid their respects.
B J Bhandary who hailed from Belthangady taluk joined the police department in 1979 and served as deputy superintendent of police (DySP) in District Crime Record Bureau (DCRB).
Bhandary had also served as an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in Mangaluru apart from serving in Mandya, Bengaluru, Chickmagalur, City Crime Bureau (CCB), State Intelligence and Lokayukta department.
He was a recipient of Chief Minister’s medal twice in 1991 and 2007. Recognising his service, the government had conferred him with President’s medal in 2011.
He had also formed ‘Retired Police Officers’ Association’ which is touted as the first such initiative in the district formed for the welfare of former police officers in the region.
The final rite was held at Nandigudda crematorium.
