Moodubelle, 24 December 2010: Following the unpleasant act of stealing of the centenary Banners during the last night by unknown miscreants for reasons best known to them and daylong commotion and police activity, new banners with the schedule of the Centenary programme were raised in the place of the old stolen onse in the evening of Friday, 24th December 2010. Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, Henry Fernandes got the new banners redone from Udupi and supervised its re-installment with the help of the youth and other people.
As reported earlier, Centenary banners with the schedule of programmes from 24th December 2010 to 5th January 2011 were stolen by some mischief makers during the early morning of 24th December 2010. The police were informed about the hooliganism of unknown elements. Police from Shirva as well as the Circle Inspector from Udupi, Cheluva Raj had visited the church and spoke to Fr. Joswey Fernandes, the parish priest of Belle and promised full protection for the entire period of the centenary celebrations. Accordingly two constables were posted near the shrine to avoid the repetition of such acts of vandalism in the future. The police had asked the parish priest to put up the banners once again as the church had already obtained permission from the Grama Panchayat office.
Dr. V.S. Acharya along with the Kaup MLA Lalaji R. Mendon who was in Belle in connection with the forthcoming elections, visited the church on receiving the report of the stealing of the Centenary banners, met Fr. Joswey Fernandes and assured of all help in resolving the issue.
