Mumbai, 15 Mar 2015: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road organized blood donation and health checkup camp, in association with Lions Club of Dahisar, supported by Lion S P Jain Eye Hospital, Dahisar and Sarala Blood Bank, at St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road, here on Sunday March 15.
Mira Road parish priest and spiritual director of Association Fr Nelson Pinto OCD inaugurated the camp here on Sunday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Pinto said that general people have wrong notion that by giving blood one may die. But this is not the case, by giving blood regularly, we are not only helping others, we help ourselves to regenerate new blood. One should donate blood regularly. The Lenten season is the best season to donate blood and it is also a way of penance. He asked God’s abundant blessings on the donors. He gave call to all to participate generously in the blood donation camp and save lives of sick and suffering.
Lions Club, Dahisar president Professor Alex George said that this is a good opportunity to the people of Mira Road to have general check up.
Hundreds of people queued patiently to donate blood from 8.00am to 2.00pm. After the medical check up, 121 people were eligible to donate blood, donated their blood.
People also queued up for health check up - cataract check up, bone marrow density check up, orthopedic check up, diabetic check up, skin and hair loss etc.
Dr Shalmali Ballhav MD, Dr Hardik Agrawat MS (Ortho), Dr Ashuthosh Singh (BHMS), Dr Jaydeep Sawant (BHMS) and technicians Santosh Sharma, Nilesh Gautam, Ved Giri were present rendering their services in health check up. 228 people registered for health check up.
The Association cultural secretary Hilary D’Silva welcomed the gathering. The president John Crasta thanked the team of Lions Club, Dahisar and Sarala Blood Bank.
Dr Hemant Duggad, Lions district governor also visited the camp and encouraged the blood donors. He appreciated the arrangement made by St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association.
