Mangaluru, 10 Feb 2015: Yenepoya University and MediAcion Germany, jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for training the nurses in palliative care. A 6-month basic certificate course was inaugurated at Yenepoya Nursing College, Yenepoya University, Deralakatte, here on Monday February 9.
Dr Jochen Becker-Ebel, CEO of MediAcion, Germany, gave an overview of the programme. In his address he stressed that palliative care is needed not only for terminally ill or aged client, there is a need for palliative care for care takers, relatives of the clients as well. Listening to the patient and being with the patient is much more than a new medicine can do at the end of life,’ said Dr Jochen.
Yenepoya University vice chancellor Dr P Chandramohan who presided the function, enlightened the gathering that health has been conceptualized by many ways consisting physical, mental , social and spiritual components.
The Post Basic Certificate Course in Palliative Care Nursing will have 5-days session for 4 times at Yenepoya Nursing College during 6 months. The delegates will have clinical experience in their own work set up. The resource persons for the course will be from MediAcion Germany, as well as those who have been trained as trainers as Palliative care Education.
The course coordinator and Yenepoya Nursing College principal Dr Asha P Shetty welcomed the gathering. Vineetha Jacob, Associate professor and in-charge of department of Psychiatric nursing proposed the vote of thanks.
